Making SEO Work for You

Some of the biggest companies around spend millions of dollars in online marketing and digital engagement to ensure that their brands remain at the top. In many cases, this money is spent on paid advertising and expensive campaigns. Many smaller business owners wonder how they can ever keep up with this and hope to become competitive. In reality, the question they should be asking is not how to compete with these giants, but rather to separate themselves from these giants. Fortunately, SEO (search engine optimization) gives businesses the opportunity to do just that.

Keywords Matter

If you’re new to the world of online marketing, you may be unfamiliar with the concept of SEO. Basically, it is the strategy used to help push your website to the top of major search engines. There have been various studies on search habits among consumers and though the exact percentages vary, the resounding truth is that most people never click past the first page of results. In other words, if your website is not search engine optimized, you can be pretty sure you are not really pulling in any search traffic. Fortunately, you do not need to spend a fortune to remedy this.

Though there are many other factors that come into play, most SEO experts agree that the most important part of an effective strategy is selecting the right keywords. This means knowing what your target audience is going to search for to find you. Fortunately, you can get a lot of help with this for a relatively low price.

Once you do start employing the right keyword strategy, you can start with other aspects like link-building, meta descriptions, and laser-targeted advertising to boost the page rank.

Getting to Page One

The ultimate goal of any SEO work is to help your website get to page one of the major search engines, with most focus falling to Google. Google still dominates the search engine market and even though some companies like Yahoo are desperately holding on, it doesn’t look like that is going to change anytime soon. This is why most online marketing teams focus on SEO first.

No matter what industry or location your business operates in, if you can get yourself to the first page of Google with an effective keyword strategy, you can be assured that your website will get the traffic it needs to succeed. From there, you just have to focus on digital engagement to ensure that your visitors actually spend the time to see why you are better than the competition.
