Forget the Super Bowl: When it comes to up-to-the-minute blog content management trends, hot Twitter marketing moves and online branding prowess, New York Fashion Week is the one to beat. Every year, brands bring their “A game” to use the world’s largest runway as an opportunity to get their name out there — and this year is bigger than ever. So here are five of the top stories we’re keeping our eye on as the festivities get underway.

.) Right on Target: The massively popular Shops at Target are back for a second spin and getting a viral buzz thanks to a very cute video. Starting on September 9th, select Targets will play home to mini-boutiques by Odin, Kirna Zabete, Patch NYC and the Curiosity Shoppe. “Shops” always attract social media attention and to push the second installment during NYFW is genius.

.) Be Your Own Fashion Police: BumeBox is a plug-in that allows mere mortals to become snooty fashion bloggers. This startup is getting major press for officially launching during NYFW — and, we gotta say, it’s pretty clever. BumeBox is a video player made exclusively for fashion shows that allows users to live Tweet and post status updates as they watch live collections from Fashion Week. Let the micro-blogging and branding begin!

.) Fashion Super Powers: American Express has assembled something of a Fashion Justice League by teaming with Lucky magazine, The Fancy and Harper’s Bazaar to create a one-of-a-kind NYFW news portal, social hub and shopping partnership. AMEX will give discounts to its members on exclusive fashions at The Fancy and Lucky. With brands like AMEX on board, this could be a game changer for both online fashion commerce and fashion publishing. It’s the first collaboration of its kind and begins on September 7th.

.) No Guest List Required: Twitter parties are a great marketing idea for brands who want to celebrate a talked-about global event with their followers. Woolite is hopping on the bandwagon this year and employing the help of fashion guru Jacqui Stafford. Stafford will tweet videos during the Twitter party on September 11th to show “guests” how to use Woolite as a way to keep their clothes looking fabulous. It’s all part of the company’s “friend of the fashionista” rebranding that Woolite has been undergoing — and we say thus far, it’s working.

.) Loving Tom and Lorenzo: Finally, we were inspired by The New York Times piece on TomandLorenzo.com. The pair behind the very popular fashion blog is known for their pointed and sometimes bitchy comments. But as it turns out, the duo is actually two nice, rather nerdy guys. Tom and Lorenzo have built a blogging empire despite zero fashion background or industry friends, proving smart writing and good marketing never go out of style.
