Before you scoot off for your three-day weekend, sit back and get caught up with the week’s biggest and quirkiest stories and videos from the world of online marketing and social media marketing. We’ve rounded up a quintet of videos, factoids and innovations sure to make you the most fascinating guest at any barbecue.
.) Recycle and Remix: This snappy video for Campari tops our list for taking something old and making it new. The ad features dozens of clips from vintage Campari commercials and various audio samples. Mashed up and remixed, Campari makes recycling look hip and refreshing.
.) Elmo’s Royal Flush: Potty Time with Elmo was a hit kid’s book in 2005, so modern branding dictates it’ll be a hit app, too. True, potty training and smartphones seem like a deadly combination, but we’ll leave it to everybody’s favorite red Muppet to make it work.
.) Network, Schmetwork: Online marketers have been keeping a close eye on the ever-exploding number of original TV series coming to the web. Hulu just announced it will release 10 new original shows over the summer. So why do marketers care? Not only does more web programming mean we’re watching TV differently now, but it means were watching ads differently, too.
.) Uncle Drew’s Got Game: Speaking of watching ads online, YouTube viewers can’t get enough of a new Pepsi Max spot starring Kyrie Irving. Released on May 18th, the ad has already received over 3.1 million views. In it, Irving is disguised as an old man who schools some young whippersnappers on the court. This 5-minute branded video proves that viewers don’t mind a long commercial, so long as it’s entertaining.
.) Twitter as Lost and Found: NFL superstar Chad Ochocinco and his lost wallet round out our list this week for showing social media good in action. Thanks to the power of Twitter, Ochocinco not only got his wallet back but Starbucks also replaced his Gold Card after reading the football star’s series of tweets. All together now: Aww!
