What is the deal with bacon? The crispy fried strips of pork seem to have this everlasting grip on the hearts of American consumers. Denny’s, which we can now safely refer to as the new KFC for its nonstop attention-getting marketing techniques, has taken bacon mania to new heights. As part of Baconalia, the company’s promotion of bacon-filled menu items, Denny’s has boldly gone where mainstream bacon has never gone before. Much like the Double Down before it, Denny’s Maple Bacon Sundae has rightfully elicited a dramatic public reaction. The sundae is a confection of layers of vanilla ice cream, maple syrup, and crispy bacon. This idea, depending on which side of the fence you stand on, is either sheer genius or one of the signs of the foodpocolypse.
Still, the fact of the matter remains that regardless of how you feel about bacon, its appeal and power cannot be denied. So how can we harness a bacon-like supremacy for our blogs and content?
Of course, I am in no way suggesting you ditch the current format of your blog and devote it solely to the topic of pork products. That would be ridiculous because your blog is great the way that it is (and the world already has enough bacon blogs). No, I’m referring to the crispy, tasty bits of content that will have readers coming back and chowing down for more. If your blog is about energy saving light bulbs, keep blogging about that — but there’s no reason you can’t take a topic everybody loves or is currently buzzing about and put your company’s twist on it.
Using tools like Google reader to keep up with the latest news is a good way to stay ahead of topics people are tweeting about. Also using writing that pops (sorry for the bacon metaphor… but at least I didn’t say sizzles, right?) is the best way to get readers addicted. Flat copy will kill your blog, so dynamic blogging as well as snappy social media content can elevate a brand from soggy to crispy. We’ve been reading some great company blogs lately that have excellent writing and engaging timely topics while staying true to what they are as a brand.
So, dear readers, let me ask you this: How do you keep your blog fresh and interactive? Get cracking in comments section below!
